School’s Out, It’s Yay Time | Binge-Worthy TV Shows (Part 1)

The holidays are here! You ain’t got no moolah to go hangout with your buddies. That’s not a problem. You can just hangout at home and binge watch TV shows together! But what to watch though? *scratches head*

Sitting in front of your TV or laptop with your food almost cold, searching for the right TV show to watch while you eat or binge on that keropok?

Before you know it, your plate is empty but you still browsing through for the right TV show! That happens way too often? I feel you but don’t worry, I got your back! These are 5 of my personal favorite TV shows that you should binge-watch.

  • The Good Place

Genre: Comedy | Drama |  Fantasy

When Eleanor Shellstrop finds herself in the afterlife, she’s both relieved and surprised that she’s made it into the Good Place. But it doesn’t take long for Eleanor to realize she’s there by mistake.

This show is really, really interesting. It makes you wonder and ponder upon things you’ve never really considered before this. The main character in this show is Eleanor Shellstrop which is played by Kristen Bell (love love her).

I honestly love this show and if you’re looking for a show that is filled with philosophy, bittersweet analogies about life, good old fashioned friendship, questions about life and death — then this is the show for you. This show will somehow make you re-think if you’ve been a nice enough person. It makes you question so much about life!

I don’t want to spill too much about it, ‘nuff said go and watch it. It’s on both iFlix and Netflix.

  • The Haunting of Hill House

Genre: Horror | Drama | Mystery

This show flashes between past and present, a fractured family confronting haunting memories of their old, haunted home and the terrifying events that drove them from it.

There was so much hype surrounding this show on social media when it first aired on October 12. I actually contemplated whether or not to watch it ‘cause the word “terrifying” has been thrown out a lot to describe this show.

Another great reason to watch this show is….need I say more?

After the first episode, the show caught my interest well enough to click on “Continue” for the next episode on Netflix. When I reached home, I watched all 10 episodes!! You’ll get hooked!

Overall, the show is great! To say it’s very petrifying, I’d say I’ve watched scarier shows than this. But don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying it’s not a good show, it is.

What I really enjoyed about this series is how well-crafted it was. Everything from the story to the characters was given much thought and was brought to life with the amazing script writing and well-coordinated camera choreography.

I also appreciated how the series made use of each characters’ struggle to show not only their ignorance of the truth, but also our ignorance of their truths.

  • Stranger Things

Genre: Science Fiction | Occult Fiction | Horror Fiction

This show is about a young boy vanishing, a small town unravels a mystery involving secret experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one strange little girl.

I wasn’t super keen to watch this show initially, because the cast were middle schoolers so I thought I wouldn’t be able to relate. The hype about this show was also very high so that made me a little hesitant.

I was afraid that they’re hyping over nothing. But then, I finally decided to give Stranger Things a chance. Oh boy, that was one of the best decisions I have made in a while. *laughs* The direction, the plot and the cast!

Everything somehow meshes well and creates this wonderful piece of art. There’s two season out right now ; the first season was an adventure, and the second, a thrilling sequel.

…and oh, this show also makes you question.. What if there is an “Upside Down” in real life. Watch it, and you’ll understand what I mean.

  • Rick and Morty

Genre: Animated Sitcom | Science Fiction

The brilliant but boozy scientist Rick hijacks his fretful teenage grandson, Morty, for wild escapades in other worlds and alternate dimensions.

It’s absolutely hilarious. This show has got its selling point right. From the subtle comedy to its reference to Back to The Future. Rick’s (Morty’s grandfather) nihilistic, we-will-figure-it-out personality and Morty’s stammered moralistic and timid disposition make for an amazing play of contrast.

First of all, there is nothing to criticize this show for. This show has got its selling point right. From the subtle comedy to its references to Back to the Future this show holds everything good for an average viewer.

With just a 22 minute run-time and a total of 30 episodes so far this show is always a must-go for a binge watch day. And with everything said the main USP of this show is how they handle continuity, that needs to be applauded. Waiting for more seasons to come.

  • Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Genre: Comedy | Sitcom | Crime

The brilliant but immature Detective Jake Peralta must learn to follow the rules and be a team player when his squad gets an exacting new captain.

This show was originally aired on Fox, but it was cancelled. Technically, we all don’t get why Fox would do that but thank God for NBC. They picked the show up and air it. With a total of 5 seasons, you will be able to watch the character development.

It’s legit one of the best shows ever. You’ll never feel bored watching it. You can even watch it for 6-7 hours continuously. An episode is only for 20 minutes. Characters are fabulous, (so in love with Detective Jake! -played by Andy Samberg, Such a cutie).

The plot is unique. It’s the perfect blend of Mystery and Comedy. It’s a must watch. No show has ever matched the level of ‘Friends’ but I have to say that Brooklyn Nine-Nine is right up there.

P/s- It is verrrrry addictive.

Oh wells, that wraps up the first part of our Binge-worthy shows to watch during the holidays! We hope this list will help you with your tv show dilemma. Grab that hot bowl of noodle now and start watching these tv show we’ve recommended.

Stay tuned for more in the future! Feel free to recommend shows that you think are amazing too.
