What are these?!!! —– The Annoying Dandruff
Dandruff… a word that is closely related to another word — embarrassment.
Having white clumps of dried skin falling on dark clothing on a normal day is already embarrassing enough. Needless to mention when we are attending an important interview or occasion.
What is Dandruff?
As most people know, dandruff is the annoying white flake we find on our head. But many don’t know what dandruff actually is.
Dandruff is actually dead skin which clumps together due to rapid renewal of skin. Most people have itchy scalp and dandruff at the same time, but that is not always the case.
Studies have pointed out a specific kind of fungus, Mallasezia, is the main cause of this skin disorder. We all have Mallasezia on our skin, especially the oily spots such as our scalp and upper back. Mallasezia lives in greasy areas and produces oleic acid which speeds up the process of skin renewal. So, getting the amount of Mallasezia controlled should ease the dandruff problem.
Hormone is another possibility, as many people only face this problem after puberty. And surprisingly, it is more commonly found in men than women.
How do I know it is Dandruff?
How do we identify if we have a dandruff problem or something else? Don’t panic when you experience a flaky scalp – it might just be your accumulated hairstyling products. Just stop using the hairstyling products, or make sure you clean your scalp properly after removing the products. It could also be due to seasonal dry scalp (if you’re living in a temperate zone) Apparently, it is not dandruff if the flaky scalp stops showing up when the season changes again.
Before getting anxious and searching for remedies online (which are mostly unreliable and ineffective), we should first get our scalp properly checked by professionals who can address our scalp condition.
